Global racing and Australian participation at racing carnivals all over the world is a reality of the modern racing and breeding industry and Paul Perry is one of the pioneers that has made it happen.

An innovator capable of thinking outside the square to achieve the very best outcome for his horses, Paul Perry has always taken the view that Australia is but one place in which to race, there are in fact others that offer all sorts of upside for those who take up the challenge.

Former top-line Group One performers Bezeal Bay and Dantelah both ventured overseas in late 1998, early 1999, the former travelling to Hong Kong for the International Bowl and the latter to New Zealand for a crack at the Group One AuRC Railway Stakes.

Both finished second in their respective assignments and the experience gained from the exercise undoubtedly fuelled Perry with enthusiasm for international competition.

Dantelah travelled to Hong Kong at the end of 1999 for a tilt at the HK International Sprint and finished a close fourth to Fairy King Prawn. She then ventured to Dubai for the Golden Shaheen and the knowledge Perry gained from his global adventures with the gallant grey mare later proved invaluable down the track when Choisir arrived on the scene.

A classy customer from day one, Choisir was the best two year-old colt of his generation and emerged at three to win the Group One VRC Lightning Stakes.

He could have been just another smart sprinting colt like so many others that have gone before, but Paul Perry hatched a plan to take on Royal Ascot and as a result the son of Danehill Dancer (IRE) became a national hero and multi-million dollar stud prospect.

The path to Royal Ascot is now well worn by Australians seeking to emulate the achievements of Perry and Choisir and the reason for it is one man's daring plan and his ability to carry it through.
